Marrero Birth Records
Marrero birth records are managed through Jefferson Parish, not through any city-level office. Marrero is a census-designated place in Jefferson Parish with no incorporated city government, so residents who need a birth certificate must use the Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court or the Louisiana state Vital Records Registry. Marrero is also home to one of the state's authorized Vital Records kiosks, which gives local residents a convenient option for ordering birth certificates without a long drive.
Marrero Quick Facts
Marrero Vital Records Kiosk
Marrero is one of the few places outside of New Orleans where you can order a Louisiana birth certificate through a state-authorized Vital Records kiosk. The Jefferson Parish Health Unit at 1855 Ames Boulevard, Marrero, LA 70072 has a kiosk that connects directly to the state Vital Records database. The phone for the Jefferson Parish Health Unit is (504) 349-8855.
The kiosk is a convenient option for Marrero residents who want to order a birth certificate without going to a courthouse. You still need to bring valid photo ID and payment. Orders placed at the kiosk are shipped via USPS to your address or can be picked up at the Louisiana Vital Records Central Office in New Orleans. State fee rates apply at the kiosk, which are lower than what the Jefferson Parish Clerk charges.
The Marrero health unit kiosk is part of a network the state built to extend access to vital records across the region. Not all parishes have this service, so Marrero residents have a real advantage in being able to use a local kiosk rather than driving to New Orleans or Gretna.
Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court for Marrero Birth Records
The Jefferson Parish Clerk of Court partners with the Louisiana Bureau of Vital Records to issue birth certificates at three locations. Marrero is just north of Gretna, making this a quick trip.
The Jefferson Parish Clerk also has a location at the Juvenile Court at 1546 Gretna Blvd., Harvey, LA 70058, which is also close to Marrero. The third location is First Parish Court at 924 David Dr., Metairie, LA 70003 on the east bank. The main office phone is (504) 364-2900. Who Can Get a Marrero Birth Certificate
Louisiana is a closed-record state. Birth records are confidential for 100 years under LSA R.S. 40:36. The Jefferson Parish Clerk follows state eligibility rules. You can get a birth certificate for yourself, your current spouse, your parents, your adult children, your siblings, your grandparents, your grandchildren, or for a minor in your legal custody. Legal guardians must show a court-signed judgment of custody. A plain notarized document is not enough.
Step-parents, in-laws, ex-spouses, and other extended family members are not eligible under Louisiana law. All requestors must show valid photo ID. One primary document is required: a current driver's license, state ID, military ID, or passport. If you cannot provide a primary document, two secondary documents may be accepted. Contact the Jefferson Parish Clerk at (504) 364-2914 to ask what secondary documents qualify before your visit.
False statements on a vital records application are a serious offense under LSA R.S. 40:61, carrying penalties of up to $10,000 in fines or five years in prison.
