Central Louisiana Birth Records

Central birth records are not issued by the city. Central is a relatively young city, incorporated in 2005, and it does not have its own vital records office. Residents who need a birth certificate must use the East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court or the Louisiana state Vital Records Registry. The East Baton Rouge Clerk offers walk-in birth certificate service at its downtown Baton Rouge location, which is accessible from Central without a long drive.

East Baton Rouge Clerk of Court for Central Residents

The East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk of Court issues birth and death certificates at its downtown location only. The address is 222 St. Louis Street, Suite 179, Baton Rouge, LA 70802. This is inside Baton Rouge City Hall. The Airline Highway branch office does not handle birth or death certificates, so Central residents must go to the downtown City Hall location.

The service is walk-in only. No appointment is needed. The phone for birth and death certificates is (225) 389-5277. The general number is (225) 389-3960. Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Birth and death certificate requests are handled during those hours, and staff can usually process same-day requests.

Note: Death certificates at East Baton Rouge are only available from June 2012 forward. If you need an older death certificate, contact the Louisiana Vital Records office directly.

East Baton Rouge Parish Clerk Birth Certificate Service

Central residents who prefer to order from the state directly can contact the Louisiana Vital Records Registry. Who Can Request Birth Records in Central

Louisiana restricts birth record access under LSA R.S. 40:36. These are closed records for the first 100 years from the date of birth. Only the person named on the certificate, their current spouse, parents, adult children, siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren may request a certified copy. An attorney representing one of those eligible people may also file a request. Legal guardians may request a record for someone in their custody but must show a court-signed judgment of custody. Notarized letters are not accepted.

Extended family members such as aunts, uncles, cousins, step-parents, in-laws, and ex-spouses are not eligible to request another person's birth certificate in Louisiana. Identification is required for all requests. Bring a current driver's license, state-issued photo ID, military ID, or U.S. passport. If you lack a primary document, two secondary documents may work. The East Baton Rouge Clerk's office can tell you what secondary documents they accept when you call ahead.

City of Central Government and Birth Records

Central was incorporated as a city in 2005. It is a relatively new municipality in East Baton Rouge Parish, and like most Louisiana cities, it does not operate any vital records services. Birth certificates are a state function in Louisiana, issued either through the state Vital Records Registry or through authorized parish clerks of court.
